Since 2023, NALHD and its members have been engaged in a 5-year project focusing on supporting, adding to, and maximizing LHD capacity in three (3) environmental health focus areas:

  • Reduce health impacts of poor air quality
  • Promote safe drinking water
  • Prevent childhood lead poisoning

Throughout the project, the NALHD team applies our resources to provide expert technical assistance (TA) to LHDs in all 3 areas. NALHD manages a monthly LEPH Community of Practice (CoP). NALHD contracts with expert TA providers and ensures their availability to all LHDS.

NALHD completed a statewide assessment of baseline environmental public health capacity across the Foundational Public Health Services (FPHS) environmental health domains and will repeat this assessment in 2028.

Nebraska DHHS’s Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) supports this work.
