How are LHDs Responding to COVID-19 and Coronavirus

COVID-19 and Coronavirus

Having trouble getting through to your local health department (LHD) during this COVID-19 Emergency?
Here are some of the reasons why.

All LHDs across the state are...

Contacting and monitoring people who have been have been in close contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Meeting daily (by phone and web) with other LHDs and state public health officials.

Fielding thousands of calls from Nebraskans concerned about coronavirus and how it impacts individuals, families and businesses.

Helping our healthcare community—hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, EMS, laboratories and other health care providers—work together and prepare to treat community members with COVID-19.

Communicating daily with state and federal partners to stay up-to-date with the quickly changing COVID-19 guidance from the CDC and from Nebraska DHHS to so all of us can work together to flatten the Coronavirus curve and protect our healthcare system capacity

Planning with and sharing accurate information with K-12 schools; preschools; colleges; businesses; county, city and village governments, senior centers, etc.

Working to keep the elderly and people with underlying health conditions healthy and prepared.

Reminding community members about ways to stop the spread of Coronavirus and other germs.

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a mask or face covering.
  • Maintain 6-feet distance from others.
  • Avoid gathering in groups (if a group is necessary, remember the 6 feet rule and wear a mask).
  • Avoid gathering in closed and poorly ventilated places.
  • Avoid visiting or hosting people who do not live with you.  This includes family.
  • Work from home if you can.
  • Wash your hands often, for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching your faceeyes, and mouth.
  • Stay home if you are sick.

Encouraging community members to keep a reasonable supply of medications, tissues, hand soap, hand sanitizer and household cleaners/disinfectants, and basic food items on hand in case they are sick with COVID-19.

Keeping up with our usual work of making the Good Life a healthy one for all Nebraskans.
